walk this way

I know I just posted that Jackson is trying to walk and well...now he's succeeded! Last night he officially moved from crawler to walker and we got it on video. Enjoy!

We didn't use a brownie to bribe him to walk, but it seems that a misplaced guitar pick is motivation enough.

And this was more of an attempt to spring which didn't go so well.

Jackson: 9 months

Time is flying and Jackson is nearly walking! Today we are celebrating nine months of Jackson and our friends, Ben & Becky Crowl, are celebrating the birth of their son, Colter Elijah (pictured below).
Dan and I can hardly believe that nine months ago Jackson was nearly the exact same size as little Colter. Here he is "petting" his new buddy on the head.
Things have definitely changed quite a bit. Today Jackson is 22 pounds of pure joy and energy. He spends his days crawling from room to room, pulling himself up onto all of the furniture, the walls, our pant legs, and anything else that might lend him a little bit of support. He's determined to walk and has already taken a few wobbly steps here and there. Dan is a little more than anxious to see his son walking...mostly because he wants to start working on Jackson's golf swing.

Jackson did just receive his third set of golf clubs (this newest set is complete with a golf bag!). I guess Dan isn't the only family member who's keen on Jackson going pro before the age of 4.
Jackson's favorite activities include dancing, playing guitar with daddy, jumping, playing bumper cars in his walker, and getting into all the things he's not supposed to touch.
He has 5 teeth and we're expecting more to make their debut any minute. Teething gel and chamomile ice cubes are our friends these days!
He's also learned to give kisses...the open mouth kind. He's certainly living up to his reputation as a little ladies man although Savannah was not too impressed with his Casanova moves.
Aunt Julie gave our little Romeo the perfect shirt.

the sound of music

This is the face of a kid who loves to rock out.
He especially likes to rock out with his daddy.
Considering that Dan plays 20+ different instruments and sings, it's no coincidence that Jackson loves all things musical. He loves to listen to Dan play guitar and is thrilled when his daddy lets him strum a few chords.
Here's a video to show you what I'm talking about...

Thanks to a grandma who likes to spoil him rotten, Jackson has tiny bongo drums, a xylophone, and not one but TWO guitars of his own to play...which he does daily.

But Jackson's love of music doesn't end with playing instruments. He also LOVES to dance. He dances to the beat of his own drum (literally), to Dan's guitar songs, to mommy's iTunes, to commercial jingles, and to every song played on the Ellen show when mommy has it on. (He's dancing right now as I write this blog.)

He especially loves to dance to the tune of the Beach Boys' "Barbara Ann"...I'm thinking it has something to do with the fact that he can actually sing along with these lyrics.

Grandma's House

Over the river and through the woods...to Grandmother's house we went!
Dan spent the day on the slopes with his dad and brother Rob so Jackson and I spent the day with Grandma Jan and our great niece Jorja. Jackson enjoyed learning new things from Jorja.
He got a little golf lesson from Grandma with the new set of clubs she found for him.
He enjoyed the view of the mountains from Grandma's kitchen window.
He loved story time.
And he even tried to do a little reading on his own.
He also enjoyed seeing "Baby Jack" in the mirror.
It was a great day at Grandma's house.

Be Mine, Valentine

Dan and I celebrated our Valentine's Day a week early as usual, but I still wanted to do something a little special on the actual holiday. So, Mom and I took Jackson for a walk to the waterfront here in Edmonds for a mini photo shoot for daddy.
It didn't go quite as planned since it was extra windy and chilly that day and Jackson was repeatedly crawling away in search of sand and sea creatures but we ended up with a few keepers.
Dan seemed to enjoy his Valentines from us. He even surprised me with a special gift of beautiful red roses and a yummy bottle of red wine for the occasion. Yep, my man's a keeper.
We took a family photo to commemorate the occasion. Jackson wasn't really into it.
It was a great Valentine's Day.

A day in the park with Grandma

My mom has been visiting us and she and Jackson are definitely making the most of their time together. Today was an absolutely gorgeous day so we took a trip to Bothell Landing for a walk in the park and I snapped a few photos of Grandma & Grandson that I'm pretty crazy about.

We even managed to get a picture of me with Jackson.

A Weekend Away

We did it! We went away from Jackson for the first time...and it was for not one but TWO whole nights! My mom is visiting from Florida for a couple of weeks so she watched Jackson for us and it was an incredible weekend getaway.
This was our 3rd annual trip to The Abendblume bed & breakfast in Leavenworth, WA. It's our tradition to celebrate Valentine's Day a week early there in the cozy, snow-covered Bavarian village. And celebrate we did in true Bavarian fashion (complete with lederhosen-clad German man).
This was an especially momentous occasion since it was my first 2 nights of uninterrupted sleep since Jackson was born. The only thing that woke me each night was the overly eager space heater when it made me too hot. With a couple of frustrated swats at the machine, I was back to dreamland. It was heavenly. And of course waking up to a gourmet breakfast each morning was icing on the cake.
Of course, it wasn't just the sleep that made the weekend so great. The bed & breakfast was amazing as always, the snow was glorious, and the company was unsurpassed. I fall more in love with Dan each day and with each new adventure.

We enjoyed a beautiful (and slightly strenuous - must work out!) snow shoe hike at Steven's Pass, a random igloo tour, and lots of soaking time in the hot tub out under the stars.
It was so refreshing to get away from the busy day-to-day demands of life and simply enjoy time together as a couple.
