Only 48 hours from now, we'll be on board a really, really, REALLY big airplane (a Boeing 747) and be well on our way to Italy!
Our flights are finally booked, Jackson's expedited passport will be ready for pick-up tomorrow afternoon, boxes are ready and waiting to be packed, and we're excited to say the least!
We've been busy with preparations. Over the weekend, we took a walk down to Rick Steves' Europe Through The Backdoor (it's a nice perk having him as a neighbor here in Edmonds) and picked up some helpful essentials like a pocket Rome guide, a DVD of his show's Italy episodes, and a hideaway money holder to evade all those charming Italian pickpockets we've heard so much about. We also picked up some foam peanuts which I now wish we had gotten Jackson as a birthday gift. He thinks they're the greatest thing on earth -- well, maybe not as good as birds but they're pretty high on the list! Can I eat these peanuts, Mommy?
Jackson spent today with Grandma Jan while I drove around town like a nut picking up last-minute necessities for our plane ride and our 3 month adventure. I guess he was having too much fun showing off for grandma to take a nap, but he crashed hard when I got home.
Tonight we said goodbye to our Mars Hill community group friends here in Edmonds. They had a send off for us complete with Italy-shaped notes of encouragement, an all Italian food extravaganza and [thanks to Adelle] some very special and AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS chocolate chip cookies!
It was especially wonderful having them send us off by praying over us and for our travels. In the words of Dan, "We already feel so blessed by God to be going on this journey but to have our friends pray over us for God to further bless us is absolutely incredible!" Saying goodbye tonight was difficult and sad but we're definitely looking forward to seeing what God has planned for our family in Europe!
